Background: The conference was unique as an industry-focused showcase highlighting cutting-edge products and processes. The two-day event in Roanoke, Virginia included panels, workshops, and presentations by leading firms, researchers, and educators in green building and energy efficiency. The event was aimed at both commercial and residential contractors and supporting organizations in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. 

• Workshop Planner and Steering Committee Member (2012). "CIB Presents: An International Workshop on Integrated Design & Delivery Solutions (IDDS)." International Workshop to Showcase Global Research, Technology and Innovative Practices in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC). Washington, DC, April 18, 2012. 

Background: The workshop was co-hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), FIATECH, and the Architecture plus Construction Alliance (A+CA), at that time directed by Virginia Tech’s College of Architecture and Urban Studies. The workshop steering committee was chaired by Nicole Testa Boston (FIATECH) and included members Shyam Sunder (CIB and NIST), Jack Davis (CIB and Virginia Tech), and me (Andrew McCoy) (CIB IDDS and Virginia Tech). The coordinator of the CIB Priority Theme IDDS was Robert Owen of The University of Salford, UK. Speakers ranged from international CIB Board members, including President John McCarthy and Secretary General Wim Bakens, to industry and academic leaders in AEC. The workshop included presentations and discussions that covered three concentrated areas: 

1. Trends in emerging technologies and innovative practices (led by FIATECH);

2. Research and education outputs(led by Virginia Tech);

3. Innovative design and delivery solutions (led by CIB’s IDDS Team).

• Session Chair (2010). "Managing IT Adoption." Proceedings, CIB W78 Conference 2010: 27th Annual Conference on Applications of IT in AEC Industry and BIM Research Workshop, Cairo, Egypt, November 16-19.

• 2010: Friends of the Farmer’s Market Mobile Kitchen Unit. Coordinated a student competition with the Constructor’s Consortium for design and construction of a mobile kitchen. The winning design will be constructed by students in Fall 2010 for the Blacksburg Farmer’s Market.

• 2010 - 2014: Habitat for Humanity, Virginia Tech Chapter. Faculty Advisor for the New River Valley chapter of the organization.

• 2010 - 2014: Habitat for Humanity, Board member for New River Valley affiliate.

2022

Richmond Biz Sense Golden Hammer Award (as team leader with Project HOMES). This award honors excellence in neighborhood revitalization projects throughout Greater Richmond and recognizes professionals and community members improving neighborhoods through restoration, adaptive reuse, new construction, placemaking, and historic preservation.

Home Builders Association of Virginia Innovation Project of the Year Award (as team member with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg chapter). 

Habitat for Humanity International's Affiliate Choice Design Award (as team member with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg chapter).  This award amounts to the international "best in show," awarded for introducing innovation into the design and construction process.
